The
story so far …………..
Waterford-based
Liam Merriman has built up a solid reputation on the
Irish live music circuit as a guitarist, singer,
songwriter, and recording artist and band member over
the years.
His
classy songs, marrying a quality folk sensibility to a
contemporary edge, has resulted in his distinctive
melodies and literate lyrics receiving positive exposure
on national and local radio, and on television through
RTE and BBC, as well as performances abroad.
One
of the main driving forces behind songwriter clubs in
Tramore and Waterford city, he has represented Ireland
at the Pan-Celtic Song Contest, writing and performing a
song especially for the event.
While
signed to the internationally renowned Polygram Records
label he released two fine singles, ‘What A Day’ and
‘The Love Is In Your Eyes’. He has also featured on
RTE’s Best of Sounds Promising compilation
album overseen by Shay Healy and based on Healy’s
popular radio series.
In
2004 demand for more live gigs and commercial recordings
saw Merriman go full-time into music. He attracted the
attention of acclaimed guitarist and producer Greg
Boland, who not only produced Merriman’s debut album Three
Rivers but teams up with him for occasional live
gigs. With his artistic spirit always eager to rise to
new challenges Merriman has recently joined forces with
poet Pat Carri for live performances that uniquely link
the arts of poetry and music, and he also plays with the
trad band Caladh.
Inspired
by the number of quality Irish and international artists
setting up their own label, Liam set up Three Rivers
Records and that album, produced by Greg Boland, is now
available on the label that gave it his name.
Ever
conscious of the need to nurture homegrown talent,
Merriman presents a programme of music by Irish artists
called The Secret Chord every Sunday night from
10pm to 1am on WLR FM. He also a board Member of
Waterford Music Network, which oversees the Teenage
Kicks project at Garter Lane Arts Centre in
Waterford that will choose a young band from Waterford
to represent Ireland at a major festival in Newfoundland
in 2005.
